A methodology for selecting a sustainable development strategy for connecting low heat density consumers to a district heating system by cascading of…

2021

Abstract The paper presents a methodology for supporting the decision making on how to sustainably develop an existing district heating system when consumers located in a remote, low-heat consumption density area are connected to the system. Several scenarios are proposed where a multi-generative system is assessed by implementation of industrial heat pumps (HP), solar photovoltaic (PV) system, and low-temperature regime into an existing district heating system in various combinations. The methodology is based on multi-criteria analysis allowing for energy, economic, exergy, and environmental (4E) assessment. The research is based on a case study of an autonomous district heating system in …

Family and Affective Models in Children's Literature. An Approach from the Texts for Early Readers at Valencian Schools

2015

Abstract In previous researches we have offered a panoramic view about the presence of family structures different from the traditional one in children's literature, (Oltra Albiach, 2011), about the (shy) presence of protagonists with homo-parent, single- parent families reconstructed or intercultural in children's titles and about the publications of these characteristics in the literature for first readers that have seen the light in recent years (Oltra Albiach & Pardo Coy, 2013). It is noted that the introduction of these literatures in initial schools remains in general a pending matter, especially if we take into account that it is an ideal level to prevent and treat stereotypes and pr…

Cabozantinib in Patients with Advanced Renal Cell Carcinoma Primary Refractory to First-line Immunocombinations or Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors.

2022

Background: A subset of patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC), deemed as primary refractory, shows progressive disease as the best response to first-line therapy even when treated with novel immune-based combos. Objective: We aimed to assess the outcome of patients treated with second-line cabozantinib for mRCC primary refractory to first-line therapy defined as Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) progression in the computed tomography scan as the best response to the upfront treatment. Design, setting, and participants: We retrospectively collected data from 11 worldwide centers. Outcome measurements and statistical analysis: Overall survival (OS) and progr…

Initiation of the professional development of the teachers of primary (Argentine, Colombia, Spain and France). Comparative study.

2016

Special education students in transition to further education: A four-year register-based follow-up study in Finland

2016

Abstract This study examines the transition of special education students into upper secondary education in Finland. The national register-based school-level dataset comprises three compulsory school-leaving cohorts of 2004, 2006 and 2009 including all students and schools providing lower secondary education. Special education students (Tier 3) are divided into four different groups based on their curriculum adjustments. The school-level effect of special education provision is evaluated with statistical models exploiting the panel nature of the data. The results show that there are significant differences in participation in upper secondary education between the groups with different level…

Gene Signatures in Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors

2011

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) constitute a rare heterogeneous group of the most common mesenchymal neoplasm of gastrointestinal tract (GI). GISTs have emerged during the recent years as a distinct sarcoma entity due to advances in the understanding of molecular mechanism of their pathogenesis. They are believed to originate from precursors shared with interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC) – the pacemaker cells of the gut (for which CD117 antigen is the immunohistochemical marker), and they may arise along all GI (most commonly in the stomach or the small bowel) or rarely elsewhere. Their biological behavior is difficult to predict, ranging from clinically benign to malignant. The trea…

Achieving universal primary education by 2015 - a chance for every child

2003

03046http://www-wds.worldbank.org/servlet/WDSContentServer/WDSP/IB/2003/09/06/000094946_03082204005065/Rendered/PDF/multi0page.pdf; A number of countries committed themselves to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), aimed at eradicating extreme poverty, and improving the welfare of people by the year 2015. The book assesses whether universal primary education can be achieved by 2015. The study focuses on the largest low-income countries that are furthest from the goal, home to about seventy five percent of the children out of school globally. By analyzing education policies, and financing patterns in relatively high-performing countries, the study identifies a new policy, and financing f…

Children's engagement during digital game-based learning of reading: The effects of time, rewards, and challenge

2014

This study investigated the effects of two game features (the level of challenge and the reward system) on first and second graders' engagement during digital game-based learning of reading. We were particularly interested in determining how well these features managed to maintain children's engagement over the 8-week training period. The children (N = 138) used GraphoGame, a web-based game training letter-sound connections, at home under the supervision of parents. Data regarding the children's gaming and engagement were stored on the GraphoGame online server. A 2 x 2 factorial design was used to investigate the effects of the level of challenge (high challenge vs. high success) and the pr…

Internal limiting membrane peeling versus no peeling during primary vitrectomy for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment: A systematic review and meta-an…

2018

Background Internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling during primary vitrectomy for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) prevents the formation of postoperative macular epiretinal membrane (ERM). However, studies that compared vitrectomy with and without ILM peeling for RRD, have reported controversial outcomes. Objective To assess the efficacy of ILM peeling versus non-ILM peeling during vitrectomy for RRD by a systematic review and meta-analysis of published studies. Methods PubMed, Medline, Web of Science, Embase databases, and the Cochrane Library were searched up to April 2018 to identify studies that compared primary vitrectomy with and without ILM peeling for RRD with at least six m…

Solar heating and cooling systems versus conventional systems assisted by photovoltaic: Application of a simplified LCA tool

2016

Abstract Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is an effective methodology to assess the energy and environmental impacts of energy systems during their life cycle, including manufacturing, operation and end-of-life. The aim of the paper is the application of a simplified LCA tool, developed in the framework of the International Energy Agency Solar Heating and Cooling Task 48, for comparing different typologies of solar assisted heating and cooling systems. In detail, solar thermal heating and cooling systems located in Palermo (southern Italy) and in Zurich (Switzerland) were compared with conventional systems assisted by grid connected and stand-alone photovoltaic plants. A validation of the tool w…
